Air Random Orbital Sander
An air random orbital sander is a pneumatic sander whose pad spins and oscillates at the same time, leaving a swirl-free finish. Soartec makes 3", 5" and 6" models with 2.5 mm, 5 mm and 9.5 mm orbits, in non-vacuum, self-vacuum and central-vacuum versions.
Frequently asked questions
What orbit size should I choose?
Choose a 9.5 mm orbit for fast stock removal and filler shaping, 5 mm for general panel prep, and 2.5 mm for fine finishing before paint or polishing.
What is the difference between self-vacuum and central-vacuum sanders?
A self-vacuum sander collects dust in an attached bag. A central-vacuum sander connects to a shop dust-extraction system. A non-vacuum sander has no dust collection and is the lightest option.
Which pad size is best: 3", 5" or 6"?
Use 6" for large flat panels, 5" for curved surfaces and general work, and 3" for spot repairs and tight contours.
What air pressure does an air random orbital sander need?
Industrial air sanders are typically rated at 90 psi (6.2 bar) at the tool.
